Renault 5 Diamant : une voiture de collection pour célébrer les 50 ans

Launched in 1972, the Renault 5 celebrates its 50th birthday. For the occasion, the French automotive giant has auctioned a very special car. Between tradition and modernity, this neo-retro Renault 5 has features and an unexpected look.

An electric Renault 5, but above all very special

For the 50th anniversary of the original Renault 5, the manufacturer is preparing a modern, electric version of its cult model.

To celebrate, the auto giant is auctioning off a unique Renault 5. Called the Renault 5 Diamant, this model was designed by the designer Pierre Gonalons.

On the menu: a pink Renault 5 that looks like the original car. Although the corners are more rounded than the 1972 model, the designer uses the original shapes of the car to make it a real collector’s item.

The door handles are gilded, and the steering wheel is in the shape of a spiral, or at least looks like a kind of pretzel, all in marble, we only do halfway.

The rest of the interior has been revamped, the dashboard is much flatter and more elegant, with a smartphone slot. But even there Pierre Gonalons did not hesitate, and offered this model a support entirely covered with horsehair.

The designer has let himself go and offers diamond-cut headlights. The same goes for mirrors that turn round and gold.

But then it runs well? Obviously, Renault did not want to talk about the technical characteristics of the car. The brand still claimed that this collector’s item could run thanks to its electric motor, but nothing has been communicated about its range or the same type of motor.

Everything has been redesigned from A to Z, piece by piece. Renault and the designer insist that this is not a modified version of an existing Renault 5.

But of course, Renault wasn’t going to do it at all.

The Renault 5 Diamant, a well-proven marketing move

Scheduled for 2023, the electric R5 is presented as a replacement for the Renault Zoe. While there are some similarities to the base model, this R5 should be a real revolution for the French brand.

The Renault 5 Diamant, meanwhile, is expected to be auctioned in the near future. And if the price goes up very quickly, others will be able to settle for the NFT Renault R5 Diamant, because Renault plans to donate the proceeds from this sale to the Give me 5 project, an initiative aimed at organizing cultural events, especially sports and music.
