Precious in the excellent course of Élan Béarnais, Gregor Hrovat will discover his third French club: the Slovenian international said yes to JDA Dijon.

For two seasons he had been one of the most underrated players of Betclic ÉLITE, far from trivial in the excellent (sporting) year of Élan Béarnais (12.6 points at 47%, 4, 5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 36 games ). Revealed in Cholet Basket, sublimated in Pau-Lacq-Orthez, Gregor Hrovat (1.96 m, 27 years old) will continue his tricolor path at the beginning of the school year by strengthening the ranks of the JDA Bourgogne Dijon.

A very nice move for the Burgundian club which thus secured the services of one of the most intelligent players in the league, a reliable binder on an outside line, capable of mounting the ball, creating, driving, shooting. And a nice way to console yourself for the loss of Khadeen Carrington as the arrival of the Slovenian rear probably buries the last hopes of an expansion of the former Monegasque.

While Dijon have set a date with Sassari, PAOK Thessaloniki and potentially Malaga in the Champions League, the Coupe de France winner will also be able to bring some welcome experience from European competitions. If EBPLO has only played at Betclic ÉLITE this season, the son of the Helios Suns already has six continental seasons to his credit: four with Olimpija Ljubljana, one with Bayreuth and the last with Cholet.

We were looking for a full-back player who had experience with Betclic Elite and BCL, ”explains Fabien Romeyer, JDA sporting director. He is no stranger to Pau’s excellent season. He has just won the Coupe de France and played the playoff semifinals with good results. Gregor also gives us human guarantees, he is a player who likes to get involved in collective projects. He will bring us his creative ability, his percussive qualities but also a real threat to the outside shots. His experience and his versatility will be invaluable to us this season. He may have to be late because he will be able to compete in the next European championship.

Indeed, Gregor Hrovat is part of the backbone of the Slovenian selection, one of the most successful teams in the world in the wake of its superstar Luka Doncic. Not yet international during the 2017 coronation, he has no other goal than the European champion title for this summer.

“We are still the reigning European champions,” he told us last February. “We really want to stay that way, that’s our goal. If everyone is present and healthy, and we play our style of play, we can aim big. Furthermore, we will have a chance to take revenge on France as we are in the same group! “

All the more reason, in Dijon, to witness the remake of the legendary semi-final of the Olympic Games on 7 September 2022, with an even more interested eye …
