6.7 billion euros of investments
France is proud to be the most attractive country in Europe for foreign investors by number of projects. The “Choose France” Summit, held this Monday in Versailles, served as a platform for the announcement of 14 major investments, totaling € 6.7 billion and more than 4,000 jobs created. The flagship announcement concerns a € 5.7 billion investment in a new semiconductor factory near Grenoble, with 1,000 jobs up for grabs.
The future semiconductor factory, whose first production should start from the end of 2023, will benefit from “significant financial support from the French state”, specified the Franco-Italian group STMicroelectronics and the American GlobalFoundries. It is part of the “Chips Act”, the European Union’s program to regain a place alongside Asia and America in world semiconductor manufacturing. Marked by the lack of these precious components, following the covid-19 crisis, Europe wants to bring its share to 20% of world production, compared to less than 10% today.
An innovation center in Brest
Brest gets a piece of the pie. Accenture, an American company specializing in business consulting, now based in Dublin, has chosen the tip of Brittany for the imminent opening of a new location for its technological development and innovation center, creating 500 jobs in three years in the Region. The center will enable companies in Brittany and elsewhere to innovate and enrich their businesses using the latest technologies (artificial intelligence, cloud, “machine learning”, metaverse, etc.), from designing solutions to their large-scale implementation, indicates the Elisha.
“The announcement of the choice of Brest (…) is excellent news, exulted François Cuillandre, mayor of Brest and president of Brest Métropole. Job prospects are very important, the choice of Brest confirms the attractiveness of the metropolis and of Brittany, and further amplifies the dynamics already engaged in the territory in the digital field “. No details on the location of this center have yet been provided.
