The French actress contracted this mosquito-borne virus in Indonesia where she was on vacation. Currently hospitalized on site, she is expected to return to France in the next few days.

While on vacation in Bali, Mathilda May contracted the dengue fever virus. This mosquito-borne disease can lead to more or less severe flu-like illnesses. The actress, who broke relatively reassuring news on her Instagram account about her, still had to be hospitalized on the spot before being repatriated in the next few days.

In a long message on her favorite social network, the actress, who has worked with Claude Chabrol, Georges Lautner, Claude Zidi and Jacques Demy in particular, took the opportunity, immobilized on her hospital bed, to praise our system health, but also to return to the lack of consideration our caregivers currently suffer: “(…)Slowly returning to myself, I think of the good fortune of being French, but also of the association of ideas to this crisis in the health sector of our country (which has crushed my heart for years) and the disregard of subsequent public authorities towards the hospital world. and his caregivers while we have a great system …“.

An appeal to the French health system

The actress, who in 2019 received the Molière for best direction for her comedy Partyhe found that in Indonesia, without sufficient means and without social security, his viral infection may perhaps not have been treated as it should: “() It is clear that where I am, without mutual insurance, I would not have had access to this overpriced hospital (imagine with local salaries …) It is therefore the great luxury here to be treated in the hospital, as in many other countries, alas.

Today, Mathilda May, thinks that our health system …of which France has always been proud– is weakened. The last words of her comment on Instagram seem like a real appeal to defend our health philosophy which, according to her, is very threatened: “Access to care for ALL is the foundation of a just society. We must preserve this essential and exemplary human value at all costs. Beyond the political divisions, I speak here of equity, fraternity and ethics. France must remain this noble country that protects these citizens from the barbarity of an absurd world where the door is closed to the sick without money. We defend hospitals that scream and die of not being heard.“.
