Ingredients

  • Ground beef (80/20): 1 lb, loosely packed into 4 balls.
  • Yellow onion: 1 large, paper-thin slices.
  • American cheese: 4 slices.
  • Burger buns: 4 brioche or potato rolls.
  • Salt and black pepper: To taste.
  • Butter or mayo: For toasting the buns.
  • Optional toppings: Pickles, mustard, garlic aioli.

Instructions

  1. Use a sharp knife or mandoline to slice the onion paper thin.

  2. Preheat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
