Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (225g) pasta: Penne, fusilli, or spaghetti.
- 1 lb (450g) Italian sausage: Mild or spicy.
- 2 tbsp olive oil: For cooking.
- 1 medium onion: Finely chopped.
- 4 cloves garlic: Minced.
- 1 red bell pepper: Sliced (optional).
- 1/4 cup honey: Adjust to taste.
- 1/4 cup soy sauce: Low sodium recommended.
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar: Adds acidity.
- 1 tsp smoked paprika: For smoky flavor.
- 1/2 tsp red chili flakes: Optional for heat.
- 1/2 cup chicken broth: For sauciness.
- 1/4 cup heavy cream: For creaminess.
- Salt and black pepper: To taste.
- Fresh parsley: Chopped for garnish.
- Grated Parmesan cheese: Optional for serving.
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Crumble the sausage into the skillet and cook for 6-8 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess fat.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil. Sauté the chopped onions for 3-4 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and sliced red bell pepper, cooking for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- To the skillet, add honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, and red chili flakes. Stir well to combine. Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Allow it to reduce slightly for 3-4 minutes.
- Return the cooked sausage to the skillet. Add the drained pasta and toss everything together to coat evenly in the sticky sauce. Stir in the heavy cream for added richness. Season with salt and black pepper as needed.
- Divide the pasta among plates or bowls. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey based on preference.
- For extra spice, increase the amount of red chili flakes or add hot sauce.
- Customize with additional veggies like spinach, broccoli, or mushrooms.
